History

History.

Founded in 2009 by five composition graduate students, conTemplum was created in an effort to provide performance opportunities and a sense of community for student composers at Temple University.  Since its creation, it has expanded in scope and membership and has grown to a highly regarded student organization in the Boyer College of Music, and a vibrant student chapter of the Society of Composers, Inc.  ConTemplum is known for hosting an exciting annual concert series which has included various events such as the Temple Composers Orchestra and SoundPrints.  ConTemplum has also hosted an annual new music symposium and a salon series which has welcomed guest lecturers and composers to Temple.

Current Plans.

Our ongoing mission is to create a community of musicians dedicated to enhancing their musical experiences through the discussion of contemporary musical ideas and the promotion of new works by Temple composers. We host new music forums, seminars, concerts and readings. We also attend local new music events and facilitate open discussion about what we encounter.

Future Endeavors.

Our future goals involve the continuation of the Temple Composers Orchestra and collaborative work with THEMUS, Temple University's Society for Musicology and Theory.  We seek to provide enriching creative opportunities by incorporating the fresh, new ideas of our members and always invite suggestions for concerts, speakers, workshops, and fundraisers.
